The Mercedes-Benz C-Class will become fully electric for the first time with the arrival of a new sedan in 2027. The first model confirmed for Canada is the electric Mercedes-Benz C 400 4MATIC, a 482-hp sedan equipped with a 94-kWh battery and an 800-volt electrical architecture.
Despite its name, it is not simply a gasoline C-Class converted to electric power. It adopts a distinct architecture, longer wheelbase, model-specific body and the new MB.OS operating system.

Why Is an Electric C-Class Important?
The C-Class has long served as Mercedes-Benz’s central compact luxury sedan. It provides a more accessible and manoeuvrable alternative to the E-Class or S-Class while retaining the presentation and technology associated with the brand’s larger sedans.
Its transition to electric power also represents an important change in naming strategy. Rather than creating a completely separate EQ model name, Mercedes-Benz is connecting the electric powertrain directly to the established C-Class family.
This makes its positioning easier to understand. It is an electric C-Class rather than an electric sedan with no clear connection to Mercedes-Benz’s traditional models.
Mercedes-Benz has not indicated that the new electric version will immediately replace the gasoline C-Class. The two may therefore coexist to serve different customer requirements.
The First C 400 4MATIC Produces 482 hp
The electric C 400 4MATIC develops 482 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Those numbers place it firmly within sport-sedan territory.
4MATIC all-wheel drive is especially relevant for a car with this much power when it is driven through a Quebec winter. It can distribute power between the axles according to conditions, although it does not replace appropriate winter tires.
The powertrain includes an electric drive unit with a two-speed transmission. The lower ratio supports acceleration, while the higher ratio is designed to reduce energy consumption at cruising speeds.
Mercedes-Benz Canada has not yet confirmed torque, top speed or the specifications of possible lower-output models.
What Is the Range of the 2027 Electric C-Class?
The official Natural Resources Canada range has not yet been published.
Overseas estimates and automotive media projections are available, but these do not represent an official Canadian rating. They should not be used to promise Quebec buyers a specific driving distance.
The battery has an announced capacity of 94 kWh. Its real-world performance will depend on aerodynamics, thermal management, wheel selection, temperature and average speed.
During winter, an EV’s range can decrease because energy is required to heat the cabin and battery. Preconditioning the vehicle while it is plugged in can reduce some of this consumption, but it cannot completely eliminate the effects of cold weather.
For now, the most accurate answer is that the electric C-Class is designed for long-distance driving, but an official Natural Resources Canada rating cannot yet be provided.
330-kW Fast Charging and an 800-Volt Architecture
The 800-volt architecture enables DC fast-charging power of up to 330 kW at a compatible station.
A high peak charging rate can reduce the duration of stops during a road trip. However, the maximum power is only possible when several conditions are met, including an appropriate battery temperature, a sufficiently low state of charge and a charging station capable of delivering the required output.
Mercedes-Benz Canada has not yet published a Canadian 10-to-80% charging time, AC charging capacity or complete details concerning the charging connector on Canadian vehicles.
These specifications will be important for determining home-charging convenience and compatibility with different fast-charging networks.
A Driving Experience Designed to Balance Comfort and Agility
Mercedes-Benz describes this model as the sportiest C-Class it has produced. Initial automotive media evaluations generally highlight powerful acceleration, stable handling and a ride that places more emphasis on comfort than some electric sport sedans.
AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent damping will be available. It can adapt its operation to control body movement while helping filter imperfections in the road.
Rear-axle steering of up to 4.5 degrees will also be offered. At lower speeds, it reduces the space required to turn. At highway speeds, it can improve stability during lane changes.
A new integrated “one-box” braking system coordinates regenerative and mechanical braking. The objective is to provide more consistent brake-pedal response while recovering a portion of the vehicle’s energy during deceleration.
A Longer Wheelbase Provides More Rear-Seat Room
The longer wheelbase creates additional rear legroom. This could broaden the electric C-Class’s appeal beyond drivers looking for a relatively compact luxury sedan.
It may also interest professionals, couples who travel regularly and families that do not require the size or height of an SUV.
Mercedes-Benz Canada has not yet published complete Canadian dimensions or official cargo capacity. Buyers will therefore need to wait before comparing its practicality precisely with the BMW i4, Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and other electric sedans.
The MBUX Hyperscreen Transforms the Dashboard
An available 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen combines the driver display, central infotainment area and passenger display beneath a large continuous surface.
The interface is powered by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS, and the newest generation of Mercedes-Benz User Experience. The MBUX Virtual Assistant incorporates generative artificial intelligence to better understand requests, maintain conversational context and personalize certain functions.
Navigation with Electric Intelligence can consider energy consumption and charging requirements when planning a route. MBUX Surround Navigation and a new MBUX Augmented Reality Head-up Display will also be available.
The extensive use of screens will appeal to technology-focused buyers, but it may require an adjustment period. A demonstration or test drive will help drivers determine whether the interface matches their preferences.
More Advanced Seats, Lighting and Audio
New premium front seats with massage and ventilation will be available. Burmester 3D and 4D Surround Sound Systems will also be among the options.
The available SKY CONTROL panoramic roof can incorporate ambient lighting. Next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT headlights use micro-LED technology to provide more precise illumination.
An interior certified by The Vegan Society will be offered, along with AMG Line and AMG Line Plus appearance packages. Up to two wireless device-charging pads can be installed in the front of the cabin.
Which Driver-Assistance Systems Will Be Offered?
The electric C-Class will use the new MB.DRIVE terminology. Announced systems include MB.DRIVE ASSIST, MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO, MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST and MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360.
The exact availability of each system will depend on the model and Canadian option packages. These technologies can support the driver in certain situations, but they do not provide fully autonomous driving.
Who Is the Electric C-Class Designed For?
The 2027 electric C-Class is primarily intended for drivers who prefer the seating position, aerodynamics and stability of a sedan to the dimensions of an SUV.
It could be particularly attractive to owners with access to home charging who complete frequent daily trips but still want a high level of highway comfort.
The C 400 4MATIC will also appeal to buyers who want substantial performance without moving to a Mercedes-AMG model. Drivers seeking a lower purchase price, a more traditional cabin or a greater number of physical controls may want to wait for other versions and evaluate the interface in person.
When Will the 2027 Electric C-Class Arrive?
Mercedes-Benz Canada expects the electric C-Class to arrive at dealerships in 2027. Pricing, Natural Resources Canada range, 10-to-80% charging time, Canadian dimensions and the final list of standard equipment have not yet been announced.
The C 400 4MATIC is the only Canadian model officially detailed so far. Other configurations may exist in certain markets, but they should not be considered confirmed for Canada until the manufacturer makes a Canadian announcement.
Mercedes-Benz Ste-Agathe will be able to provide pricing, options, ordering details and the official Canadian range once that information is released.
